Residential Treatment Program -- provides therapy, education, recreation and family support services to youth who have serious mental health and behavioral issues. Boys and girls age 11 to 17 are referred to the program based on their difficulty functioning safely and successfully with their natural or foster families, and in their community schools. The young people benefit from a highly structured, nurturing environment while living in one of five supervised cottages on the main campus. They receive special education services through the registered and state-licensed Campus School, which prepares students for an eventual return to community schools. Individualized treatment plans are developed with input from psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, teachers and parents. Average length of stay is 12 months. When possible, the goal is to successfully reunite youth with parents or guardians, or prepare them for independent life in the community with a transition to other support programs.
Adolescent Eating Disorders Residential Program -- provides a safe and nurturing living environment for adolescents (ages 12-18) throughout New York, who are receiving treatment from Unity Health’s partial-hospitalization program for eating disorders. Clients participate in the Unity partial-hospitalization program during the day, and then receive support and supervision from St. Joseph’s Villa residential counseling staff during the evening and weekend hours. The Villa offers a private, off-site residence located in a Rochester suburb, which is approximately a 20-minute ride from Unity’s program. At the residence, clients have the opportunity to reflect on their treatment through private time, recreation activities, community group discussions and individual and/or family activities. Residential counselors will encourage clients toward treatment goals as outlined by their primary therapists at Unity. Ongoing family visitation and participation is strongly encouraged to help parents become partners in their child’s recovery. The Villa’s Adolescent Eating Disorders Residential Program is the only one of its kind in New York State. Additional information about the Eating Disorders Recovery Center of Western New York is available at http://www.nyeatingdisorders.org/.
Residential Treatment Facility (RTF) -- provides specialized, long-term treatment
for boys age 13 to 21 who have been diagnosed with severe emotional disturbance, including attention
deficit disorders and personality disorders. Residing in a cottage on the agency's main campus and
attending the Campus School, clients benefit from a peaceful, structured, strength-based environment
in which to work toward therapeutic, educational, vocational, social and independent living goals.
Intensive therapy and support for both the youth and family is emphasized so that each teen can continue
progress after discharge, whether they are reuniting with the family or making a transition to a more
independent level of residential care such as a group home in the community.
