VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Mentors

By far, the greatest need is for adults, both individuals and couples, who have consistent time to share with a Villa young person as a mentor. There is usually a waiting list of Villa boys and girls who would like to have mentors. Many do not have positive relationships with adults in their lives. Mentors are people who understand that growing up can be difficult. Through commitment and consistency, the volunteer and teen are able to build a trusting relationship. The volunteer offers encouragement and friendship as a positive role model, and provides an extra measure of support the young person needs. By giving a little of themselves and their time, mentors give a priceless gift. Mentors are carefully screened and matched with youth who share similar interests. For this role, it is essential that you are able to spend at least one hour every other week with a teen in a community setting.

Program Support

The special talents of volunteers are also needed to share leisure activities in group settings on the Villa's main campus, and in group homes. We welcome adults who would like to share their skills and knowledge with Villa youth during weekly visits or through workshops or presentations. Our young people benefit from exposure to a variety of hobbies and interests including music, art, writing, carpentry, athletics, cooking, sewing, nature, gardening, chess, you name it! Volunteers are also needed to help as tutors and assist with recreation programs.

Clerical Support

Volunteers are needed to help with clerical tasks, such as filing and copying, in the Villa's administrative offices and to assist the agency with special projects and events, such as the annual Holiday Helpers program.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

The Villa needs adults who enjoy kids and are:

  • positive role models
  • at least 21 years old
  • able to participate at least twice monthly
  • willing to make a commitment for six months or more

If you would like to learn more about the Villa's many volunteer needs, please call the Volunteer Office at (585)865-1550 ext. 206.
